About The Conference Written by YPFDJ admin Thursday, 31 July 2008
YOUNG PFDJ-NA (Young- Peoples Front for Democracy and Justice, North America) hosts a yearly conference for young Eritreans who have the passion to learn about Eritrea’s affairs and the willpower to get involved and contribute to the efforts of development in any field he/she desires.
The mission of the conference is to empower and strengthen the Eritrean youth in Diaspora and create continuity with their country of origin, Eritrea. The program includes discussions on social, cultural and political topics. . The event also provides a great opportunity for networking, interacting and exchanging ideas. Eritrea's national mission is to assure a viable and sustainable nation and today's youth are expected to undertake this monumental task. Hence, the theme for the conference is "Building a strong, conscious and patriotic youth". The movement strives to empower every participant with leadership skills, knowledge of historical background, social and political consciousness as well as awareness of heritage and self identity. The conference is not an open public seminar that focuses on general current affairs discussion. It is designed to strengthen existing organizations and individuals' capacity through an exchange of experiences, exploring theories and strategies. Thus, participants need to be members of Y-PFDJ, NUEYS, other National Associations-and or individuals who are serious in exploring the opportunities and the prospects to be part of the movement. There is a strong correlation that young people with strong connectedness to their culture and identity have higher prospect to excel in their overall personal endeavors. The movement in general and the conference in particular generates several benefits. Participants will gain an in-depth knowledge of Eritrea’s social, economic and political challenges and opportunities within the global context. Such understandings have encouraged many to become members of Y-PFDJ, NUEYS or active participants within their communities. Many young people who have attended past conferences were inspired to make positive contribution to their country of origin, Eritrea and within their respective communities in the United States. Members of YPFDJ are expected to excel in their educational endeavor, strive to be model and responsible citizens, contribute to the betterment of human kind, as well as be ambassadors to Eritrea and America. If you are an enthusiastic optimist and have the desire to contribute toward the common good of the Eritrean people and human kind in general, then save Labor Day Weekend 2008 (August 28th to September 1st) to attend the conference.
